Founded in 1974, today the Avignonesi winery is owned by the Belgian entrepreneur Virginie Saverys, at the helm since 2009. The principles that inspire the company are undoubtedly uncompromising style and territoriality, with the continuous stimulus of experimentation both in the vineyard and in the cellar.
Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is one of several classic Tuscan red wines based on the Sangiovese grape variety. It comes from the vineyards that surround Montepulciano, a picturesque hill town 40 kilometers (25 miles) southeast of Siena, southeastern Tuscany.
The fermentation of wine is spontaneous with the use of indigenous yeasts. Alcohol fermentation and maceration on the skins lasted from 20 to 30 days, depending on the individual lots.
Aging is done for 12 months in French barriques and 6 months in large Slavonian oak casks, for a total of 18 months, followed by a minimum of 6 months in the bottle.
