Sforzato di Valtellina (or Sfursat di Valtellina) is a DOCG appellation for powerful red wine, based on the Nebbiolo grape variety, in Valtellina, ia district in the Lombardy region of northern Italy.
The wine is a product of Nebbiolo, the grape variety behind the top-quality red wines of Piedmont, northwestern Italy, the most notable of which are Barolo and Barbaresco.
The spearhead of the Boffalora collection, a unique and authentic expression of the Valtellina territory.
Established in 2002, with just over two hectares of vineyards, the Boffalora Farm is located in the municipality of Castione Andevenno in the province of Sondrio, in the wine production area of Valtellina Superiore DOCG.
The name “Boffalora” recalls the blowing of the Valtellina winds Breva and Tivano: during the day, from Lake Como, the Breva blows, while at night, the Tivano blows in the opposite direction.
After the grape harvest, which takes place by hand or with the only help of a wheelbarrow, the fermentation process begins which takes place in a strictly spontaneous way, the subsequent aging in wood lasts about 15 months, followed by a further period of rest in the bottle.
