Castello del Poggio is a large wine estate located in Asti, Piedmont. It makes a range of the region's key wine styles, including Moscato d'Asti and Barbera d'Asti, and a range of grape varieties including Brachetto, Grignolino and Dolcetto.
The wine is made with Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains (Moscato Bianco in Italy) , the oldest member of the Muscat family, which places it in good standing as one of the oldest grape varieties in the world.
Fermentation of the wine is allowed to progress until the it has obtained 5% alcohol. Then the grape's natural sugar content is preserved by refrigeration in order to give the wine its unique sweet and aromatic characteristics.
