Etna is an Italian wine DOC which covers the slopes of Mount Etna, the 3330 meter (10,920ft) active volcano that dominates the northeastern corner of Sicily.
The wine is a blend of Nerello Cappuccio – Nerello Mascalese, two very Sicilian grape varieties. Together they are the mainstay of quality red wines from Sicily's east coast, and have long been a popular choice for wines made under the Sicilia DOC.
Vineyards are in Contrada Corvo, in Castiglione di Sicilia with exposure to south-east on sandy-skeleton-rich soils.
Grapes in perfect health are harvested and are followed with 10-day maceration and spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, using indigenous yeasts.
Ageing is done for few months in steel tanks.
To enjoy it at its best it is recommended to let the wine 'breathe' at least 15-30 minutes before serving in medium open goblet glasses.
