Puglia IGT is a region-wide appellation for the Puglia region in southern Italy. Since its introduction in November 1995, it has become one of the most widely used of Italy's 120 or so IGTs (Indicazione Geografica Tipica), and thus one of the country's most significant wine appellations.
Vigneti del Salento is the Puglia venture of the Farnese group (responsible for Gran Sasso, Vesevo and Tufarello ). The wines were made at two wineries in the province of Taranto on the western flank of Salento.
Negroamaro is a dark-skinned grape variety that has been associated with the Puglia region in southern Italy for at least 1500 years. Most commonly found in a blend, alongside Primitivo, Malvasia Nera, Sangiovese or Montepulciano, Negroamaro is valued for its deep color, medium-full tannins and dark berryfruit flavors.
The grapes are gently pressed and cooled to 10ºC for a maceration period of 8-10 days with regular pumping over. Yeasts are added to start fermentation, which take place under temperature-controlled conditions of up to 20ºC.
The wine is then aged in used American and French oak for 4-5 months before bottling.
