Morellino di Scansano is an Italian wine appellation in southern Tuscany. The wines are dry reds from the Sangiovese grape variety, known here as Morellino. They are produced in the rolling coastal hills around the medieval village of Scansano.
Sangiovese (or Nielluccio in Corsica), a dark-berried vine, is the most widely planted grape variety in Italy.
Alcoholic fermentation of grapes is done in steel tanks at a controlled temperature followed by ageing for 12 months in large oak barrels.
